of the united states. so that if they don't do so well, the expectations game is a little lower. reminds me when al gore was debating george w. bush in 2000, al gore, the vice president of the united states, was seen as a great debate, george w. bush not so much. but then al gore, you know, had some fumbles and in terms of the sighing he did and a lot of people were paying attention to that. and bush all of a sudden looked a whole lot better. these debates can be significant for relatively trivial things like that, if, for example, and you remember when the first president bush, george h.w. bush, you know, at one of the presidential debates started looking at his watch and it looked like he was ready to move on. let's get out of here, already. that hurt him, i think, in his re-election bid against bill clinton back in 1992. it is part of the game. it is what goes on. but i think these debates are going to be really, really important for that, 6%, 7%, 8% who are legitimately undecided or switchable, haven't completely made up their minds. they're going to be watching the three presidential debate

a nuclear weapon. of course the united states and israel has gone back and forth when and if a strike is necessary. the united states secretary of state sat down with prime minister netanyahu yesterday for a meeting. that is not the meeting that the prime minister wanted. he did want to meet with president obama. requested a meeting. that was request was denied. the prime minister offered to fly to washington, d.c. today to meet with president obama. we learned he is spending much of the day at campaign events. back in israel, we look again at the newspaper. not all the reaction is positive. next to the prime minister drawing on the diagram of the bomb is a headline a little bit making fun of him saying bebe, the prime minister's nickname, boom. one headline down here. they have had a caricature of him as bugs bunny drawing on the same diagram, calling the diagram a cartoon. there is feeling among some, doing that at united nations holding up the diagram and drawing the red line was perhaps not fitting the prime minister of israel. gregg? gregg: leland vittert in jerusalem. thank you

and cookie, too. i think having been a congressman, he's obviously united states senator now. he knows policy. he was a trade rep. he was a white house -- in congress. this guy knows his stuff. but i think interestingly apparently, he's somewhat of a method actor. he listened to tapes, for instance, of the books on tape of barack obama and he's really able to take on the effect and the cadence of the person he's playing. and he too has great bedside manner. he's somewhat of a prankster. he develops very warm relationships not only with republicans but democrats have nice things to say about him. >> jennifer: interesting because he was so close to being selected for vice president. i don't know that being a debate stand-in is a good second nod. but president obama is going to be heading to henderson nevada for three days of debate prep behind closed doors. when you and i helped to prepare joe biden i'm curious from your perspective, jill, what was the most surprising thing to you about that whole debate prep? >> th

? that makes sense. one of the least controversial things you could possibly imagine the united states government agreeing to. well, a bill to adjust that payment for the cost of living was brought to the senate floor last thursday. it was expected to go ahead. no plmuss, no fuss, who's goingo argue with that? it was blocked by someone in governor romney's party. an unnamed republican senator has put a hold on the cost of living adjustment to the surviving spouses and children's payment for soldiers killed in the war. the same hold is also affecting the disability payments to soldiers who are wounded in the war. some republican senator is blocking this. we don't know who. governor romney, here's a place to start. you are now the leader of the republican party. i realize you're having a hard time getting the training wheels off when it comes to national security, but here's an easy one. should that senator from your own party lift that hold on the cost of living adjustment to the payments to those people who we sort of owe it to? should a republican senator who's holding this up keep th
